Back in 2018 we embarked on a teaching series based on the gospel of Matthew. It’s an incredible account of the life of Jesus, full of dramatic narrative and punctuated with blocks of Jesus’ teaching.

Right at the end of the book, in chapter 28 – we find a little clue that helps us to read the book as the writer originally intended. We read Jesus’ all too familiar words –

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:28

Making Disciples, everywhere, baptising them AND teaching them.

But what do we teach them?

What are the essentials, the Jesus 101, that we, as disciples ourselves, need to pass on to those who are new to the faith?

And there is our clue. If we track back through Matthew we see clearly laid out for us, key things Jesus taught about life, his coming Kingdom, and much much more.

That was the basis for our series and, we said at the time, it was going to take us a while to get through it all!! So, we’ve walked our way through Mathew chapters 5 and 6 – commonly known as the Sermon on the Mount – all the preaches are on our website (click the link and then type MATTHEW in the search bar)

Next week, 28/06/2020, Ian Brons is going to pick up our series again, looking at ‘The Parables of the Kingdom’ as found in Matthew chapter 13. It would be great if you had a little read!

More than that, however, I’d love us to pause and ask the question –

What IS a Disciple of Jesus?
What does it actually look like to follow him!?

That’s where we started the series back in January 2018 and it’s a great question to keep coming back to – the first talk is here – enjoy and be challenged!
